Technologies Supplies Largest "Battery" of Police Bikes in History
LA-based
Electric Bike Manufacturer Partners with Chicago Utility Company to Supply 130
Electric Police Bicycles to Over 100 Chicago Area Police Departments
VAN NUYS, CA.
-- Currie Technologies, a leader in electric bicycle technology received the
largest single order of police bikes in the history of the industry. Dr. Malcolm
Currie, the company's co-founder, president and CEO made the announcement today.
The order was received from Chicago's ComEd, electric energy
provider for Northern Illinois, a subsidiary of Unicom Corporation (NYSE:UCM),
which is supporting local law enforcement and environmental responsibility by
donating over 130 electric bicycles to over 100 communities in the Chicago and
Northwestern Illinois areas of ComEd's service territory.
Currie's "Law Enforcement Special" - which can be pedaled normally until officers
activate the battery propulsion system - is a modified 27 speed mountain bike,
powered by Currie's patented Electro-Drive, direct drive propulsion system,
that utilizes a 24-Volt brushless DC motor, for rapid acceleration with enough
torque to help climb any hill encountered. Special police accessories include
a NiteRider® Law Enforcement Lighting System with pursuit lights, siren, and
an Inertia Design Rack Storage Bag for police equipment. The Fuji Police Special
features an oversized lightweight aluminum alloy frame and is equipped with
heavy-duty components. The system is extremely rugged and works in all weather
conditions.
"Bicycles allow officers to safely navigate crowded areas and
arrive at a crime scene quicker," added Richard Mayer, Executive Vice President
and Co-Founder. "Our Police bikes are designed to reduce officer fatigue and
lengthen patrol duration, while also eliminating the nighttime noise and
pollution associated with standard police vehicles."
